Talking about several failures of gears

Mar 07,2019

When we use gears in our life, we often encounter the situation of gear failure, so in what environment is the gear more prone to failure, today we will talk about several methods of gear failure.

1. Failure due to fatigue pitting Because the gears are always in cyclic motion, and the orientation of the meshing point is constantly changing, under the effect of long-term force, small cracks will gradually appear at the knife marks on the tooth surface. When it is long, the cracks will increase, which will constitute the phenomenon of fatigue pitting.

2. Failure due to plastic deformation of the tooth surface The so-called plastic deformation is the deformation of the curved surface of the tooth profile, which is generally caused by overload operation.

3. Failure due to surface wear of gears. This situation occurs when hard and thin small objects enter the gears and then move to wear the surfaces during the long-term use of the gears. When the gap increases, the gears become thinner and the gears crack. Usually this is the case of gear wear caused by the use of dirty lubricating oil mixed with fine particles.
